Being a successful business owner is something that most people desire and really crave for I was like this some years back until I was able to recently hit the desired breakthrough. Am fully aware that there are lots of people still in the dark like I was some years back and that is why in this post today, I will be sharing with you why it is difficult to be a successful online business owner.
Let’s get started immediately…
Do you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? That if you don’t make this business thing work, your life is going to flat fall apart? Do you wonder what it takes to be that successful online business owner?
I know I’ve asked myself this more than once in my online career. Life online can be extremely overwhelming for most of us.
Why We Choose To Become An Online Business Owner.
I heard something the other day that reminded me why overwhelm so prevalent when starting an online business.
Most people start an online business to generate extra income either to help out with monthly expenses (which is more people than one realizes) or setting up some sort of savings for the future. Whether that be a college fund, retirement fund, that dream vacation or just making enough money so you never have to work again.
Because there are so many opportunities to choose from out there in internet-world, what you’re really getting into can be somewhat confusing.
Unfortunately, more times than not, by the time we realize that we need to do something to supplement our
income, we already need the income, not the need to spend more to start a business. So when turning to online marketing (of some sort) to help fulfill that lack, we go into this online business idea already desperate. This, I believe, is where we’re looking for the easy fix to our monetary problem. (The internet is full of promises)
Why Do we Think That Online Marketing Is Just A Push of A Button To Success?
But the truth is, what we’re looking for doesn’t exist. It never has. If you think about it, life has all these growth steps, from birth to school, to college, marriage, etc. It takes time to learn (ie, 12 years of grammar school, 4-10 years of college, time to find and develop the relationship of the one you want to spend the rest of your life with).
So why do we expect an online business to be any different? Why do we expect to put up a website, send out some emails and wallah, hundreds of dollars just come flying at us.
Well, I know when I first got started, some years ago, I had no idea that I was really building a business. At that time, what I heard was that some guy sitting at home in his underwear was making thousands of dollars online. You may or may not have heard of him.
But he and other guru marketers, similar in nature, were advertising how easy it was, but what they were teaching didn’t make sense to the non-risk taker, the non-business-owner type, like me.
You see, normal everyday people, especially back then, didn’t think like millionaires. We were raised to get a job, promote within and retire.
Well, that worked for some people, but not for me. I always wanted more than just a job. Not only does it not work for me, but it doesn’t work for anyone anymore.
The Future of Online Business Success
So as I began searching online for opportunities, overwhelm set in quickly. You get started in one business, but then you have to buy this tool, this program, get this mentor; you get the point. And then, you start getting all these other online opportunities that look better than the one you just signed up for…the shiny object syndrome.
You get my point!
So, I actually stepped out of the online marketing venture for about 5 years. I got so tired of just be sold to. Then one day, when I realized that I quit because of the need to learn how to build a business, nurture it, not be the guru or salesperson I so despised, I realized I found my niche.
I just want to help people find a way to generate whatever income they need or want for their situation, using only the tools they need when they need them, to be successful the first time in their own online business.
I want for people to understand that they are building a business. That the results most-likely will take some time. Baby steps with daily activities are an important key to success. With continued forward momentum as the driving force your business will feed your inner-business potential.
So here’s to everyone’s success but before I roundup today, I would like to talk about one more important point which is:
Reasons Why an Online Business is the Best Investment You Will Ever Make
Entrepreneurs are a rare breed of individuals who are constantly exploring new business opportunities. Some seek out new opportunities on their own while others are constantly being pitched new ideas.
The majority of opportunities, no matter how good they might sound, end up being a complete money-sucking nightmare due to expensive overhead, slow scalability and low margins. Online businesses, however, can be very appealing because they don’t have the traditional hurdles that most new ventures face. The following are four reasons why online businesses are the best investment entrepreneurs can make.
1. Offers Incredible Scalability
Not every single online business is going to automatically morph into a huge success with rapid exponential growth. Many entrepreneurs start an online business thinking customers are automatically going to find them and sales will pour in because they have a small footprint on the Internet. They think that a few tweets and some Facebook posts are all it will take to snowball an online business into a virtual ATM.
Scaling any business is not easy, whether it is a brick-and-mortar location or an online business, but an online business has advantages. For instance, a brick-and-mortar retail store has a defined audience, typically a radius from the business location. An online business isn’t restricted by this and can market to a worldwide audience.
Once a successful marketing and advertising strategy is identified an online business can simply open up its target and increase budget to grow very fast.
2. Provides Limitless Freedom
Many entrepreneurs are drawn to online businesses because of the freedom they offer. Modern technology, laptops, tablets, business apps and VOIP communication systems are just some of the tools that allow businesses to be operated from any location. Next time you are in a Starbucks take a look around — I guarantee someone is working on their online business or startup while connected to WiFi and sipping their favorite coffee.
Not being tied to a particular location or desk from nine to five can be very empowering. Some entrepreneurs don’t know how to balance the freedom and fail miserably, while others use the freedom as motivation to work even harder. Don’t mistake freedom for time to slack off. True entrepreneurs respect the freedom and understand that the hard work is well worth the ability to spend more time with their families and partake in activities that most miss out on because they are part of the nine to five grinds.
3. Low Overhead And High Margins
An online business will often allow you to eliminate some of the huge costs associated with an offline business. Not only can you eliminate things such as pricey office or retail space and long-term lease commitments, but you can also eliminate having to tie up your money in stocking inventory. A drop-shipping agreement with the manufacturer or a manufacture-to-order arrangement can greatly reduce your financial-risk and will allow you to maintain more consistent margins with less upfront cost.
Imagine if you had a business that sold hats and you carried five variations: red, blue, green, yellow and orange. In a physical brick-and-mortar location you would need to keep all the variations in stock because you don’t know what hat the people walking through your door are coming to buy. If the yellow hats don’t sell you are forced to discount them and take a loss. Selling the same hats via drop-shipping would mean you won’t be left holding unsold merchandise that you have already paid for.
4. Access To A Worldwide Market
The beautiful thing about an online business is the ability to run it 24/7 without boundaries. There are no geographical boundaries and there are no specific hours of operation — an online business can produce revenue around the clock, even while you sleep.
With a well-thought-out social media plan, search-engine optimization and paid media strategies, an online business can thrive. You have access to the entire world right at your fingertips. The luxury of being able to target specific states, regions and countries gives an upper hand to online-based businesses.
